应兰州大学西部环境与气候变化研究院、兰州大学旱区流域科学与水资源研究中心主任、国家“千人计划”特聘教授贺缠生邀请,德国波茨坦气候影响研究所Juergen P. Kropp教授(主管气候变化与发展研究领域)访问我校,并作学术报告。

报告人简介

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Kropp started his academic career after serving 9yrs as a police officer for the state of Lower Saxony/Germany. He studied chemistry and physics and finished a PhD in theoretical physics at the University of Potsdam. At Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) he heads the Research Area: Climate Change & Development (CCD). Jürgen Kropp provided active service as an advisor/expert on national and international panels for policy advice on Climate and Global Change issues, e.g. for the Council of Europe, German Technical Cooperation, German Advisory Council on Global Change to the Federal Gov’t, European Union, Portugese Parliament. In 2006 he received the Amber Tree Award by the European Union for realisation of a visionary project bringing together economic, social and natural scientists, and planners for investigating new tools when facing climate change. In 2012 he was awarded by the renowned CleanTechMedia award for the foundation of the Climate Media Factory Potsdam, an innovative media lab for science communucation. Jürgen was visiting professor at the Mahidol University Bangkok/Thailand (2008-2010). In 2010 he declined an offer for a full professorship at Griffith University, Brisbane/Australiaand being coincidentally Deputy Director of the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility of Australia and took over a professorship at University of Potsdam/Germany. Since 2014 he chairs the advisory board of the recently founded Centre for Climate Change and Development in Islamabad/Pakistan. In the European Climate Knowledge, Innovation and Cooperation he acts as platform board member for the sustainable cities and climate services topics.His research interests are devoted to the analysis of man environment interactions, complex systems analysis and on the development of concepts allowing an assessment of national transition pathways to sustainability. Jürgen has published numerous papers dealing with climate impact assessments on various scales. He is academic editor of PlosOne, founding editor for Challenges in Sustainability (2012-2014) and member of the editorial board of the Regional Environmental Change Journal.
